My Lord,
C.O.

Hongkong, 25th. April, 1908.
I have the honour to transmit for
Your Lordship's consideration the enclosed copy of letter
addressed on the 17th. instant by Dr. J. Bell, Dr. J. C. ———
Thomson, and Dr. W. V. M. Koch to the Principal Civil
Medical Officer, requesting that their present official
designation as "Assistant Surgeong" should be altered.
2.
I sympathize with the objection
which these Officers have to a designation which is used
in India for subordinate locally-trained native officers,
several of whom are now regularly employed in this Colony
attached to Indian Regiments, and I have the honour to
request Your Lordship's approval of the following altera-
-tions in the titles of the Officers of the Medical
Department, viz.:-
(a), that Medical Officers with 10 years'
service in the Colony should be
describe as "Senior Medical Officers".
RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CRIFE,
&C...
80.
